Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) is a 4 year engineering course in specializations such as B Tech Computer Science, B Tech Biotechnology, B Tech in Computer Science, B Tech IT, B Tech mechanical engineering and others. B Tech degree provides theoretical and practical knowledge of technology to the students. B Tech is a professional course in the field of engineering.
B Tech Colleges in India provide the course in various specializations such as BTech Computer Science, BTech IT, BTech Artificial Intelligence, Civil, etc. Students can choose their own BTech specialisations.
B Tech Admission Process takes place through Entrance exams which are either national level, state level or college based. Sudents who wants study B Tech in IITs will have to crack JEE Advanced.

B Tech Admission Process
- B Tech aspirants can appear in any entrance exam to enter India’s top universities.
- National entrance exams such as JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are applicable to Bachelor of Technology in most universities.
- The B Tech Admissions is through national (JEE Mains, JEE Advanced), state (WBJEE, KEAM, etc.) or university/college level (IISER level test, BITSAT, etc.) entrance exams.
- It is estimated that some universities conduct their own entrance examinations to shortlist students. These exams are held in the months of April and May each year.
- This decision was made taking into account the current situation of the pandemic and the increase in Covid-19 cases.
B Tech Eligibility Criteria

- To get admission in B Tech courses, candidates must pass a 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized educational board such as CBSE, ICSE, etc.
- A minimum of 60% aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics is mandatory. A relaxation of 5% is given to the reservation categories such as SC/ST.
- If you have qualified your entrance exam, such as JEE Mains or other equivalent exams, you will need to show your score card to the university when registering.

Most of the Government Engineering Colleges such as IITs, NITs, etc. take national entrance exams such as JEE Main and JEE Advanced, but some states such as West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh etc. take their own entrance tests.

(Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.))
Bachelor of Engineering, or B.E., is a professional degree programme of the undergraduate level that is dedicated entirely to the field of engineering. The duration of a B.E. programme is four years and it reaches up to five years if the student has enrolled in the integrated dual-degree course. The course of B.E. is covered semester wise and it is spread evenly across eight (or ten) semesters. Students who pursue their graduation in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) can choose their stream and specialisation from a plethora of options available. B.E. is offered in many public and private institutions and each institute provides different subjects for specialisation. The main focus of the B.E. course is on the scientific theory concepts and experiments which are used later in making it a reality.
Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) Eligibility Criteria
- Students must have completed class 12th education from a recognised board of education.
- It is mandatory for the students to have completed their higher secondary education in the science stream with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
- The aggregate marks scored by the student at the 10 + 2 level should not be less than 50 per cent. For admission to some colleges, the minimum marks required are 75 per cent.
Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) Admission Process
- Students are selected for the course B.E. after they have appeared for an entrance test.
- Majority of the engineering colleges in India shortlist students on the basis of their performance in the entrance exam. Some colleges conduct their own entrance tests while some consider the scores obtained in national level competitive exams like JEE Main.
- Few colleges admit students on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination.
